Patna University situated in the heart of capital city of Bihar, is one of the oldest universities in India. It was inaugurated in 1863 by the Britishers to improve the education system of the native people. At the time of its commencement , it had a very rare anglo infrastructure which was wholly based on the imperial designs of the British which can be seen even today when one visits the campus. The quality of the university was of such a finest that it was once called the “Oxford Of The East”.
Patna University provides various traditional courses complemented with vocational courses like BBA , BMC , BCA , MBA , MCA ,etc. These are some colleges of Patna University which are distinguished by the subjects taught in it :-
Patna Science College
Patna Science College is undoubtedly the premiere college of Patna University especially when you see the ratio of quality of education to the fees of the courses. It is the first choice of the students who want their degree in the science extreme which makes the cutoff of Patna Science College the highest. There are also some courses which are literally free of cost for the female students in the college.
Our honourable prime minister Mr. Narendra Modi has come to this college on the occasion of the completion of 100 years of the Patna University.
Vashishitha Narayan Singh , H.C Verma , Nitish Kumar , Shatrughan Sinha are some popular alumni of the college .
The college also provides hostel facilities for the students who come from the distant part of Bihar. Also the colleges have very unique names as they are named after renowned scientists such as Newton, Faraday , Ramanujan ,CA Wendish etc.
Patna College
It is the oldest college (established on 9 January, 1863 ) of Patna University , situated at the breathtaking banks of river Ganga. It is also the Mother of most of the colleges such as National Institute Of Technology, Patna Science College , Patna Law College, etc. Also the campus of the college is unique in its own way because of the imperial designs of the buildings , but sadly due to improper maintenance of the buildings (like any government institution building ) , the vintage charm has gone blurred.
Ramdhari Singh Dinkar , Jaiprakash Narayan , Anugrah Narayan Sinha are some precious alumni of the college who have made their mark in shaping the country in their respective fields.
Patna Women’s College
It is one of the best colleges not only in Bihar but in the whole Noth-east region of India as far as the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is concerned. Its five star rating of the college makes it different from the rest of the colleges of Patna University. It provides traditional courses in all the extremes i.e science , arts, commerce as well as the vocational courses . There is even a placement cell (very rare for the colleges of Patna University) in the college which takes care of the student to provide a job in their fields. However, the autonomous nature of the college often gets into a negative limelight for their excessive amount of the course fees.
Magadh Mahila College
The college established in 1946, is located near Gandhi Maidan which is the ultimate face of the city of Patna and so are the bright girls of Magadh Mahila College. The college provides undergraduate as well as the postgraduate courses in science, arts and commerce and hasn’t looked back since its inception in producing personalities like Padmshree Sharda Sinha , Ratna Purkayastha , Chhavi Pandey and many more . The college has also a very good record in generating scholarships for the exceptional students as compared to the other colleges of Patna University.
Patna Law College
The college inaugurated in 1909, is dedicated to the law students and has its own fascinating facts as very few people know this college was a part of Calcutta university as Patna University (which started in 1917) wasn’t established back then . Patna Law College like any other colleges of Patna University had a very strong impact in the Indian society as the college has given the country two Chief Justice of India and also the first Attorney General from Bihar. The college follows the updated syllabus instructed by the Bar Council Of India for Three-year Law Course leading to LL.B Degree of the Patna University. Also , its permanent affiliation from the B.C.I adds cherry on the top.
B.N College
B.N college stands for Bihar National College is one of the colleges which is more known by its acronym . But anyone who knows the history of the college knows the importance of the word “National” which has been added with a lot of hard work by two acquisitive educationists and nationalists Babu Bisheswar Singh and Shaligram Singh. The college is the prime example of the nationalist movements during the British Raj. The college offers bachelor degree through 18 different subjects which is complemented by vocational courses like Bio-Technology , BCA , Functional English and BBA .
